On 2 October 2012 an event was held in Kragujevac’s town square to mark the International Day of Non-Violence. For the Kragujevac police this is a way of sharing the responsibility for young people’s safety with the other local stakeholders, including schools and social services.

The Kragujevac police directorate is combating youth violence with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and in co-ordination with other relevant local institutions, including schools, social services and youth offices. As part of this project, they are organizing a series of public debates in secondary schools to raise awareness among youth. The project also includes a number of street events and public campaigns in which awareness-raising material is distributed to the local citizens.

The OSCE Mission this year is financing 13 projects implemented by 13 different police districts throughout Serbia, in order to further enhance community policing practices and support the police service in developing and implementing prevention practices. These projects tackle safety problems in their respective communities, including peer violence among juveniles, school safety, internet bullying, domestic violence, sports hooliganism and violence against marginalized groups.
