BELGRADE, 27 July 2012 - The Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Ambassador Dimitrios Kypreos, welcomed today the formation of the Government in Serbia.

“It is encouraging that Serbia has again a government with declared commitment to reforms and European integration, reflecting a broad national consensus on these goals. We welcome the statements to this effect by the new Prime Minister and his cabinet and expect that the Government will seize the opportunity to strengthen and accelerate the reform process,” said Ambassador Kypreos.

“The OSCE Mission is ready to continue supporting further reforms and strengthening of democratic institutions and procedures, on the basis of its mandate,” he added.

“We look forward to continued constructive co-operation with this government, including in the areas of its stated high priorities, namely the rule of law, the fight against corruption, media and other reforms, as well as in the area of human and minority rights.”

The Mission assists Serbia in strengthening independent, accountable and effective democratic institutions, particularly in the fields of rule of law, human and minority rights, law enforcement and media. The Mission also supports civil society development and fosters regional co-operation and reconciliation, contributing to a sustainable and stable society for all citizens of Serbia.
