BELGRADE, 14 December 2004 - The municipality of Pirot in eastern Serbia and the municipality of Bijelo Polje in Montenegro won the Municipal Tolerance Prize of the year, awarded by the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro.

The Head of the OSCE Mission, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, will present the awards to Mayor Vladan Vasic of Pirot and to Mayor Tarzan Milosevic of Bijelo Polje at the Mission's end-of-year diplomatic reception on Thursday, 16 December 2004.

The competition, which was open to all municipalities throughout Serbia and Montenegro, assessed the degree to which municipalities focused on activities that foster inter-ethnic tolerance in 2004.

The winning municipalities will each receive 5,000 euros to be invested in activities for the furthering of a tolerant community in 2005.
