OSCE Mission to Serbia supports economics summer school

BELGRADE, 25 July 2008 - Twenty-eight students from the Western Balkans took part in the OSCE-supported Summer School of Economics, which concluded today.

The two-week course, presented by national and international experts, covered a range of topics, with an emphasis on transparency, competition and tax policy, the economics of growth, and on the Austrian and Chicago schools of free-market economics.

"The school provided the participants with the latest theoretical and practical tools in order to grasp the complexity of economic development in democratic society. They will share their knowledge with their colleagues, contributing to regional reconciliation and dialogue among young people from different countries," said Dusan Vasiljevic, the Head of the Economic and Environmental Department at the OSCE Mission to Serbia.

Kosovka Ognjenovic, the Summer School Co-ordinator, added: "These gifted students had an opportunity to learn, exchange experiences and network. Thanks to the OSCE's support we are fostering co-operation at the local and regional levels, and contributing to the creation of a sound competitive environment for future young entrepreneurs."

This 11th Summer School of Economics was organized by the Economic and Social Policy Institute and supported by the OSCE Mission to Serbia.
