An overview of the European Court of Human Rights’ judgments concerning criminal justice in Serbia

This is an overview of all judgments handed down by the European Court of Human Rights in relation to the criminal justice system in Serbia between 3 March 2004 and 30 June 2025 – they concern cases in which applicants claimed that a right had been violated in criminal or misdemeanour proceedings, by the failure of the public prosecutor to investigate an alleged violation of a right under the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, or during enforcement of criminal sanctions. In addition to statistical data on the number of judgments, the duration of proceedings, the amounts awarded to applicants in damages and costs of proceedings, the types of violations of Convention rights and the applicants and their representatives, the overview contains an explanation of what judgments were handed down in relation to individual Convention rights and which of them indicate important, systemic problems. Finally, the overview contains individual overviews of all judgments, with the most important ones being treated in more detail than others, with a commentary by the author.  The publication is available in Serbian language.
