Analysis on Mental Health of Journalists
In recent years, the OSCE Mission to Serbia has been paying close attention to the systematic assessment and analysis of journalists’ mental health.
The first such analysis was published in 2023, and the findings at that time were highly concerning. The percentage of journalists who have, or believe they have, a mental health problem increased from 32.3% in 2023 to 37.1% of respondents in 2025, which is more than double the estimated prevalence of mental disorders in the general population, around 15%.
The goal of this initiative is to collect reliable data in order to develop concrete recommendations and sustainable support measures. Such an approach represents an important step in defining the prerequisites for creation of safer and healthier working environment for journalists. The publication is available in Serbian language.
