BELGRADE, 28 January 2005 - The Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, today welcomed the announcement by the Serbian Government that former Colonel General Vladimir Lazarevic will surrender to the Hague Tribunal.

"The OSCE Mission urges the Serbian Government to fulfil all its obligations towards the ICTY," said Ambassador Massari. "The surrender of General Lazarevic is good news but there are more than a dozen other indictees who are believed to be residing in Serbia and Montenegro."

"The Serbian Government must redouble its efforts to have all persons indicted for war crimes transferred to the Hague as soon as possible. This is the most crucial issue the Serbian Government is facing today," he added.

Former Colonel General Vladimir Lazarevic was indicted in 2003 by the ICTY for crimes against humanity and violations of the laws or customs of war in Kosovo and Metohija. He is reported to be surrendering by the end of next week.
