BELGRADE, 2 July 2003 - The OSCE and the Serbian Government have agreed to work together to improve Serbia's voter register.

In a meeting with the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, the Serbian Prime Minister, Zoran Zivkovic, agreed today that the country's voter register needed improving and that a legislative process would be initiated to ensure the creation of an appropriate voter registration system.

Prime Minister Zivkovic welcomed the proposed expert assistance from the OSCE Mission and the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).

In the meeting, Ambassador Massari also raised the question of the media situation in Serbia, stressing the need to legitimize the composition of the Broadcasting Council in an open and transparent manner.
