Head of OSCE Mission welcomes adoption of new law on associations by the Serbian Parliament

BELGRADE, 9 July 2009 - Thomas Moore, the Acting Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, welcomed today the adoption by the Assembly of the Republic of Serbia of the new Law on Associations.
"This long-awaited Law will regulate the establishment of associations and set up guidelines for their registration and re-registration in line with international standards. The new legislation represents a significant contribution to the development of a vibrant and thriving civil society in Serbia," said Moore.
The OSCE Mission, in co-operation with the relevant Ministries and the non-governmental organization Civic Initiatives, will continue supporting the implementation of the new Law.
