OSCE Mission trains first line police supervisors in Belgrade

BELGRADE, 23 April 2007 - An advanced training course for first line police supervisors was launched today at the OSCE Advanced Police Training Centre in Zemun. The course, supported by the OSCE Mission to Serbia in partnership with the Interior Ministry, aims to improve the competencies and knowledge of police officers enabling them to meet the challenges of first line police supervision.

The course is part of a management and leadership training package.

"Effective police supervisors should be able to lead those within their command to attain the goals of the organization and I believe this programme will be very beneficial to the Serbian police," said Aage Aase, Head of the OSCE Mission's Law Enforcement Department. "I am confident that our participants will acquire tools and techniques that will significantly increase their effectiveness at work."

In a first stage, the course will be delivered by the OSCE Mission to Serbia, with plans to hand over the course to national training experts who are themselves graduates of the Mission's trainer development programme.

The OSCE Mission to Serbia prioritizes the sustainable reform of police education and training, and works in close co-operation with the Serbian Ministry of the Interior to assist local authorities in their development of modern educational and training methods; ranging from basic to advanced and specialized levels of police work.
