After a massive explosion rocked an ammunitions storage facility in Serbia, the Ministry of Defence requested the assistance of the OSCE and UNDP to help them manage their stockpiles of ammunition.
In 2012, these three groups joined forces to form the CASM programme, which aims to:
- Demilitarize and dispose of 1,133 tonnes of napalm powder and white phosphorous-filled ammunition
- Develop infastructure of ammunition storage areas
- Increase the safety of the demiliraization process
The first task of the programme was recently completed with the demilitarization and destruction of over 160 tonnes of napalm powder.
